We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

After a two-day “vacation”, we went back to work today. The building was flooded, in addition to my car and house, so we were left to swim on our own for a couple of days. Today they decided it was dry enough to be productive.
We spent the first few hours of the day sweeping out water, with all the furniture and anything detachable hanging out outside. I think the general consensus was, “and they can’t hire someone else to do this?” I didn’t care; I was just happy to be back. The administrative office was in a shopping center in my hometown that went completely underwater, so the workers there are all dispersed amongst the other centers. Tensions and stress rise like the flood levels.
The rain isn’t over yet, but things seem to be looking up. While part of me would love nothing better than to drown myself in Blue Moon and chocolate cake, that’s no real way to be. It killed me to ask for help, though, especially after that lovely little “you can’t stay on my couch anymore” blog. Now who’s the one staying with someone else? Hopefully it won’t be for long though, even though my coworker and her family are perfectly lovely. I’m so, so thankful I have made the friends I have in the past year. Being proactive, I think, is the way to get out of any rut. I’ve talked with GEMA, and if you are a Georgia resident affected by the flood, I’d recommend doing the same. It’s not going to hurt, at any rate.
I should have my photos from the flood up in a day or so, and maybe once I get my thoughts together, a more cohesive and readable blog will be in order. Thank you everyone for all of your kind words and for thinking of me; please, please let me know if you are in this same situation and there is something I can do to pay it forward!
