The Hooves: “A Hooves Christmas“ (NSFW!) Taking the mean Santa from the Belle and Sebastian song, and running with it. Santa has a dirty mouth! Oh, and he cooked Rudolph on his barbecue last night, just to see him die. You know you love this song already.
The Weepies: “All That I Want“ You know this one, it’s from that commercial! You know, that one! The song itself translates much better in full; this is a simple alt-country Christmas pretty little diddy.
Le Sport, Montt Mardie and Mr. Suitcase: “Last Christmas“ Because every Christmas needs a little techno, right?
Aimee Mann: “Christmastime“ Something about Aimee Mann just always reminds me of Christmas, anyway. Her voice is so peaceful, unlike Christmas dinner at my house!

I would add Destiny’s Child’s Carol of the Bells to this list and of course The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York with the late Kristy Macoll.

But how could you forget “Chiron Beta Prime” by Jonathan Coulton?

@ Lisa: I am not adding Destiny’s Child to my list. I’m sorry, it’s just not gonna happen!
@ yyzed: I’ll definitely get on checking that one out; thanks!

I know I’m going to get trampled to death for mentioning this one, but how about “Don’t They Know It’s Xmas,” by Band Aid?

Up until this year, I despised this song, but this year I’ve been singing it out loud when no one is around. As an added bonus, the video features Bono without sunglasses.

I think you have to include the Entirety of The Vandals’ “Oi to the World” album – it’s a little sick and demented at times (“My First Christmas as a Woman,” “Grandpa’s Last Christmas,” “Thanks for Nothing”), but for those who are tired of the X-Mas drivel out there will be happy for a little change in scenery. The punk version of the “Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies” is wild, and the title track has been posthumously covered by No Doubt.

You should check out “Xmas Curtain” by My Morning Jacket. Definitely not your standard Christmas Song, and guaranteed not to put you to sleep like some of the old standards might.

I just found Being Alone for Christmas & Christmas Lullaby. I really enjoy them. Len Francis Monahan sings these songs.
