Okay, so I’m not exactly fat. YET. I’m tall for a girl, and curvy, but lately, the curves have started to fall in the wrong places. Blogging for a living puts me up at odd hours of the day and night, and generally, I will forget to consume anything besides coffee all day while working, and then bam! Whoa, I’m hungry! Then what do I want? Something filling (read: carbs). Then I snack all night.
And I wonder why I’ve gained weight.
It wasn’t until I stepped on the scale at The Boyfriend’s dad’s house the other night that I realized just how much weight. I’ve never been athletic. I can barely even walk without falling over something. Granted, I can swim like a fish, but who’s going to go swimming at this time of year? And worse, who wants to put on a bathing suit when she’s ashamed of her weight?
I spent the weekend kind of upset and depressed about this. I mean, had we not been buying healthier options at the grocery store? Sure, I have been mixing a lot of hot chocolate packs into my coffee lately, but how much damage can powder do? But that night I decided, no more carbs, no more sugar. At least for two-to-four weeks. And since it is as cold as you-know-what outside, I was going to start by working out on the Wii Fit again. After all, I didn’t spend $100 to use it for six days and then let it be a doggy pad!
The first day food-wise was killer. I don’t know why “I’m on a diet” is code for “Bring a cheesecake into this house.” Or why it would warrant The Boyfriend’s mom into thinking a cheesecake, two Hardee’s Thick Burgers, and a pizza would be good diet food. But I’ve been good…I’ve only had a couple of bites of the cheesecake.
(And none of the burger or pizza!) The Wii Fit itself I have found it not too hard to overcome obstacles. Day One I was struggling with Advanced Boxing. Day Two I was kicking butt in Expert. So I’m just working on increasing my time and type of workout everyday.
The third day, I decided I didn’t have the willpower to completely cut out carbs. So I have been eating bran flakes and fiber bars. A little brown rice. Since accepting that, I haven’t even thought about trying anymore cheesecake!
I don’t know how challenging the Wii Fit will be after a couple of weeks, but it is nice to have a little guidance. Doing yoga, even though I can only do like four different poses without falling at this point, has alleviated that crick I’ve had in my back for weeks. I find myself bonding with my male trainer, even though he says the same things over and over and over again. “Keep it up! You’re doing great! You have great posture!” Running in place while watching recorded episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation (I’ve just admitted my dirty little secret. You now know everything there is to know about me). I forgot how good it felt to move after those first few hard days!
Today I saw my first real decline on the graph. It gives me hope and incentive to keep it up. And if that weren’t incentive enough, The Boyfriend is promising to pay me $1 per pound, or a shopping spree (which would cost way more $$) when I reach my goal. Cheesecake, I think I’m going to win this round.
Help me keep it up! Share your Wii Fit stories and let’s start a network…hold each other accountable! Drop me a line or follow me on Twitter and we can keep in touch. This is one wagon I definitely don’t want to fall off.

I don’t like video games, especially the violent bloody ones. However, I think I would love to have a Wii Fit. It sounds fun and gets you up off your booty. I would actually use it.

@Beej the Pink Sheep, I don’t like video games either…not really into time wasters unless they can benefit you or make you money!

I think I’ll just vicariously enjoy your Wii Fit, but my support you can have, all you can handle! I’ve found cutting all carbs to be rather unhealthy and what you’ve done, switching to more complex carbs, is the better alternative. Another trick is to separate your carbs from food items that take longer to digest, like fat and proteins. So eat the hamburger meat and the goodies it’s topped with (like lettuce, tomato, cheese and bacon), but don’t eat the bun or the french fries, then wait a few hours and have some fresh fruit. Any of the berries are the lowest in natural sugar and highest in antioxidants. Have oatmeal for breakfast, but don’t have any butter, bacon or sausage with it, and use fat-free milk if you want milk with the oatmeal or your coffee; use artificial sweetener instead of sugar. Wait about an hour and have some fruit. If you want pasta, get whole wheat (you may need to try a few brands before you find one you like), make your own tomato sauce without sugar or meat, and use lots of fresh herbs, spices and garlic to up the flavor factor. Some people like to add a can of black beans to the sauce; technically they’re complex carbs, but they also provide protein. I love to eat this way and I’ve kept my weight steady since I started. Check my website for recipes. Good luck, sweetie!

I heard there is a awesome solitaire game called Faerie Solitaire. My close friend showed me it, and I really think it’s the best solitaire game ever made!
