The Oscars are coming on tonight!  I’m not much for awards shows (it’s even worse having to live-blog them), but it’s fun to dress up and play games with your friends on Oscar night!  And with Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin hosting, there’s bound to be a laugh or two, right?  And if not, watching people bomb is entertaining, too.

Here are the nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards.  I will start underlining the winners on here as they are announced! Among the best picture nominees, I have seen Avatar, District 9, An Education, Precious, and Up.  I think among those I would pick Precious for Best Picture, though I have high expectations for Up in the Air.  Who do you think the real winners/losers are?

The Gospel Hoedown on the local TV channel, UCTV-3.  This WAS our Saturday nights!

I dare you to watch and not be entertained by its awesomeness.

Remember this one? “I was in the sixth grade, on the honor roll and everything. THEN, I got pregnant. School was not important to me, so I dropped out. And now that I’m 15, I have two babies. It’s important for me to finish school because I don’t want my babies to have to go through the things I went through. I don’t wanna live off other people for the rest of my life. I wanna be somebody. You know, I don’t wanna live like this.”

I don’t know why, but this commercial done by The Ad Council with Ashley was my favorite growing up. Watching it now though, it’s actually kind of heart-breaking. Especially after watching the movie Precious and all five seasons of The Wire. But my BFF Carrie and I have been searching for this video for years now, thinking that, if there’s internet, then someone has posted it somewhere! Carrie finally found it, therefore winning the golden prize. It’s odd though, something you see and have been quoting since adolescence as something that makes you burst into fits of giggles, and then you actually see the real thing again, and it has a completely different effect. Either I was a very cruel teenager or am now a very over-sensitive adult (or maybe both!). Regardless, poor Ashley. I hope she was able to make it out of the Welfare hole and was able to provide for her her two babies…wonder what she’s doing now?
