[digg-reddit-me]When I first started blogging for Backseat Cuddler and Gravy and Biscuits and until just recently, I often just right-clicked and saved photos from other blogs I wanted. And if I didn’t do that, I would do a Google image search and save a photo that fit my post.  Every now and then I would get an email from a website like People or from a photo agency asking me to remove their image.  I didn’t really know that it was wrong to use photos this way, but apparently, if you don’t pay for the images, you don’t get to use them.

I started researching how much it would cost to purchase photos from places like Splash and Pacific Coast News, and the prices wound up being way more than I could afford.  One of the cheapest places offers $10 per photo, and it is a very rare day if I even make $10 in ad revenue from a single post!  On one hand, I need to use photos on my blog. Also, there’s no way I could ever afford to pay out the nose for photos. And on the other, I don’t want to steal photos from people who actually do pay for them.  However, I have come across quite a few great resources that allow you to use both agency and stock photos legally and for free!  Here are some of the places I know about and use.

Thank you for commenting…I was actually just about to update my post to include the new WordPress plugin! I have not used it too much, but I probably will now that there is a plugin for it (if I can get it working, that is). Thanks again for writing!

Great to see Zemanta in this list :) I just wanted to mention that you can also make money with our pictures. If you enter your Amazon Affiliate ID in Preferences, then any Amazon Book or CD Covers will also include it, earning you some money if people buy things on Amazon after reading your blog.

If you have any questions or ideas about Zemanta, just let me know – jure@zemanta.com
